Day 33
2 miles hiked Welp. Today I got a hitch at 10 and started hiking by 10:30. I hiked a mile up the trail and then hurt my ankle and fell on it and heard a little pop pop I think. I fell on my face too. Ouch. A very nice couple with a dog named Hurley helped me back down the mile I hiked. I got a ride back to the lodge with Anthony and iced my ankle on and off for the rest of the day. Pretty bummed out but I know something good will come out of this set back. Day 34 Today I basically just iced my foot and ankle and slept and watched Netflix and ate food. Day 35 Same today as yesterday, but more hikers came through and I got some social interaction which was much needed.

Zero day to change plans
Get to Wenatchee I woke up this morning and went to go get some breakfast didn’t like too much of the food they had but I am also a picky breakfast either, so I just ate a few sausages and had some lemonade. I know… breakfast of a psychopath. Then I went and packed up all my gear and brought my bag to where the shuttle will come and grab us to take us back to stehekin where I will then take the ferry boat ride to chelan. It was only 8 AM when everything was packed and ready so then I went to the “ Wi-Fi chair “ as they call it and caught up on social media until 930 when the shuttle came. We also stopped at the bakery again, and I got 2 more carrot cupcakes. When we arrived at stehekin, it was 10 o’clock and we had to wait until 1230 for the ferry to arrive. The ferry was actually late. It was supposed to leave at 12:30 but they ended up leaving at 1:10. This means that I missed the bus to get to Wenatchee, but it ended up working out for the best because I got a ride with a mother and son and we hopped in Lake Chelan to swim a bit before driving to Wenatchee. Once I got to Wenatchee, I was going to take the bus to Leavenworth, but decided to stay in Wenatchee because they had a target which was cheaper to resupply and cheaper hotel rates because I am a solo hiker this year I like to find cheaper hotel rates because I’m not sharing with anyone else right now. I did my laundry at the hotel and I ordered in some Wendy’s food to pig out on for dinner. Then I watched my show, caught up on social media and talked with family. Day 31: Zero day Today I woke up and got a later check out for 12pm. I stayed in bed till 10:30 and then showered and got ready to go to target. My Uber picked me up at 12:30 (was hard to get an Uber) and then I got started on my resupply. I called my mom while I was ranting about food haha. Then I got a hitch to the bus stop and waited for the bus to Leavenworth. Once in Leavenworth I walked up to other hikers I saw hanging out and then met chilli and two other hikers. I hung out with chilli for a few hours walking around Leavenworth together and we got some lunch. I got a giant dill pickle and a pretzel with alpine cheese sauce. Then I met up with a hiker named carol and we got a hitch together up to skykomish outfitters lodge. We hung out with all the people at the lodge celebrating the owner, Anthony’s birthday as well. I was the first hiker to stay at the lodge and then with carol being the second so that is pretty cool. Day 32: Zero day Was gonna get on trail but ended up waited for my ride that was very late. (Was supposed to pick me up at 11 and didn’t come till after 3) and then stuff happened on social media with me finding out some hiker creep is stalking a female hiker so I was helping figure out who he is and posting everywhere to make people aware. 8.2 miles
8 people on trail Lots of people at stehekin Met lizard and Hanson Stayed at stehekin valley ranch Today I woke up around six and decided that I wanted to sleep more so I went back to bed after going pee and eating a small snack and woke up again at 7:30. I hiked 8.2 miles in 3 1/2 hours to make it to the spot that the shuttle picks up hikers to take to stehekin. It should’ve only been 7.8 miles, but I went .2 miles the wrong way haha. When I got to shuttle pick up, I still had 25 minutes to spare. I did not stop hiking the entire 8.2 miles. My feet hurt a lot when I made it to the picnic table. We had a very in-depth tour from the shuttle driver along the way to stehekin. We also stopped at the bakery and I got a huge carrot cupcake and ate it way too fast. I also got a cinnamon bun, but then I lost it at some point during the day and I never got to eat it so that was sad. Turns out that the general store did not have the food that I confirmed that they had over the phone so I needed to somehow resupply for the next eight days on just ramen and almonds. Not exactly ideal. I also heard from someone that they had to self arrest three times on the next section so I decided to skip this section for my well-being. I stayed at Stehekin Valley Ranch, which has great food, but pretty expensive and wouldn’t stay again during the pct considering they don’t have wifi or power in the tent cabins (which was the cheapest option). I met some new hikers. I haven’t seen before, and re-met some hikers I saw from the desert. Everyone is flipping up to different places because the Sierra is very dangerous to go through right now. I’ve decided that tomorrow I will take the ferry boat ride to Chelan, and from there get a hitch or bus to Wenatchee and stay there for the night as it is a much cheaper option. Then I will go to Leavenworth the next day and enjoy myself before getting back on trail. I hung out with Hansen a bunch tonight and convinced him to also take the ferry boat ride to chelan because he has to stay and wait for a package that’s been delayed. 9.1 miles
Camp solo 2 people seen Good news I woke up this morning pretty late and when I was packing up camp and ready to go I came across two people at the very first three minutes of my walk and they had three lighters, so they graciously gave me one of them. The trail provides. I decided that today I wanted to get to camp just before the thunderstorm that was forecasted for today would start so I would be hiking from 8:30 to 3 PM max as the thunderstorm was going to be starting between two and three. Today was a decently easy day in terms of terrain, but more miles right off the bat than I have been used to so of course I’m going to make sure that my hip and my foot is OK as I hike throughout the day. I stopped for the first time after 4 miles for a little snack break before that I ate one of my honey buns as I was walking. Today was mainly downhill. There’s a few sense that were no more than a mile so like I said a very easy day in terms of elevation gain and terrain. I walked into camp where there was four different spots. You could camp and I started setting up my tent just as I heard the first boom of thunder. I quickly went to go get my water put my feet in the creek for a few minutes as the rain started to come down and then quickly walked back to my tent and made myself my late lunch around 3 PM. I spent the day listening to an audiobook, watching my show, playing some solitaire and listening to the rain, bounce off my tent. I also took a late afternoon nap. Tomorrow I know I have more easy terrain, and I get to Stehekin to eat some baked goods at their famous bakery. So I was pretty excited. I slept like a baby tonight. .8 miles
Camped solo I started the morning with an appointment telehealth with Blaze Physio to make sure that my foot arch pain would not hinder my trail. Then I got picked up by a Trail angel named Trevor and his wife, Aurora and we made our way to Seattle for the first stop before heading to Rainey pass we got Mexican food in Seattle and I ate enchiladas. I slept a lot of the way as I was super tired from last night’s shenanigans. When we finally got to rainy pass, it was around 5 PM and raining so I decided to just hike .8 of a mile to the first campsite and set up camp. When I was ready to eat dinner, I got out all of my food and realized that I had forgotten to pick up a new lighter so I did not have hot food and I ate a lot of snacks that I knew I would need for the next day, but I was hoping that I could get a lighter tomorrow from a hiker or borrow one so that I can eat my hot food. |
