11 miles hiked

Woke up today to some rain, but nothing could change my mood from being anything but content and happy.
Today I tackle the last pass of the Sierra Nevada. Sonora pass. I am in awe. I did the Sierra. I climbed over mountain passes day after day. I saw beauty around every corner. Ever pass brought a new vista and a new awe for myself and my confidence in my abilities. Sure I had to miss a couple passes due to hardships and altitude sickness… looking at you Forester. But I can come back for that. I won’t let that take away my victory of the Sierra. I did the damn thing. I am so proud of myself.
It started to rain harder as I begun my climb up to Sonora pass. I was freezing cold and soaked to the bone… I figured I would use my rain jacket to keep my gear dryas I would get to a bed and shower and a dryer tonight for my clothing and me. I put one foot in front of the other. I sang songs. I listened to Head Above Water on repeat. And when I finally reached the first summit… a rainbow showed up for me. My first rainbow of the Sierra, and the very last day. The first of my entire hike too. I cried. I thought of the people who are cheering me on who have passed from this life. I spread some ashes of my great grandma and grandpa so they can always see a rainbow at the end of a shower. And then…. I ran like the wind down the mountain. It was time to get my ass into gear and push it to the road. The wind was brutal. I was freezing cold again. I got service on the way down and called my momma while I was freezing my butt off because mom’s take priority ;)
I almost lost my hat on the ridge of the descent but managed to chase after it before it disappeared.

When I made it to the road I got a hitch with the parents of a friend I had made on this last stretch so that was pretty funny timing :)

I met up with all my friends who were ahead and got lunch with them all before they hiked out. I stayed in the dorm overnight and saw “tree trunks” a girl I met back in Idyllwild and we chatted about the trail with her friend and another gal in the room going for a section hike :)
