A Pacific Crest Trail Journey

13.8 miles hiked

Today I get off the trail to get to VVR before Woodstock gets there tomorrow.

The plan is to get to Muir Trail Ranch and then get the ferry from Florence lake and hitch from the lake to VVR. An easy 7 miles total I thought…

I was wrong. So so wrong. Turns out Florence lake is 4.7 miles from Muir Trail Ranch. (I thought it was 0.4 miles)
And the last ferry is 4:45.
So I had to do 4.7 miles on a bum ankle and a hurt possibly plantar fasciitis foot within 2.25 hours by the time I was at Muir Trail Ranch…

So. Time was a ticking. And I was very worried I wouldn’t make it in time. Usually I can do 2 miles an hour on average. So I would be able to do it, but I was hurt, on each foot… and idk if I can make it. But I had to try. So I got my sprained ankle taped by a JMT hiker and started hiking.

And I freaking made it. With 15 minutes to spare too. And luckily the boat came because apparently it wasn’t going to come today, but because they gave a ride to someone who used to give ferry rides 40 years ago, they showed up at 4:40. And those same people gave me a hitch to VVR. Amazing people.

Once I got to VVR I got my free drink, ordered a stir fry dinner and talked to my family.I set up camp and watched a show and went to sleep at 10 when the wifi cut off for the night.

Fun fact I also saw Olivia and Chris today and hiked with them for the 1.8 miles from Piute Creek to the junction of MTR.
It was so nice to see them again! I thought they were so much farther ahead.
