Day 74

11.2 miles hiked

Did not sleep well last night. Nightmares amongst night terrors. I haven’t had a sleep that bad in a long time. I’m not sure what brought it on. I hope it doesn’t happen again tonight because I have a long day tomorrow with attempting 16-22 miles. With the goal of the 22. Reason is today my foot was hurting so our planned 16.7 mile day today did not end up happening.

Everything really likes to bring me down.

The mosquitoes sucked ass today too. To the point where after getting to camp tonight I counted over 40 bites on my butt and legs. Who knows how many are on my shoulders and back etc.

But let me try to think of 5 things that made today great. Because I was feeling pretty low from the beginning of the day.

  1. After summiting Pinchot pass the views were absolutely breathtaking.
  2. I had cheese for a snack.
  3. At camp I see part of how far we hiked by the mountains we summited and that’s pretty cool to see that even though we didn’t make it as far as we wanted to, it is still amazing what our body’s can do.
  4. Some serious water crossings today, sketchy as heck, but I haven’t gotten my feet wet or fallen in yet!
  5. The views of Lake Margorie were absolutely amazing. Reminded me of Floe lake in Canada.

So I guess today wasn’t so bad

The bad things really just were:

  1. A bad sleep so being tired and starting later than planned.
  2. Mosquito city
  3. My ankle hurting and causing us to stop earlier then we wanted.

Today was a good day all in all. Plus getting to camp early before 4 is kinda nice so I guess my injury did something for me lol.
I hope tomorrow it is okay though. We are really needing to do at least 20 miles tomorrow because we are running out of food if we don’t start to push it. I have 4.5 days left with stretching it and under eating… and if we were to do normal mileage it would be 5.5 days.

Fingers crossed.

Today was truly beautiful though. A memorable day with water crossings, mountains, embracing the suck and Pinchot pass.
