16.5 miles hiked- Getting to bottom of mount Whitney

Apparently Chicken Joe rolled up around 9:30pm to camp last night and colonel was throwing up a bit due to altitude sickness. (I was asleep during all this and didn’t know till morning)

Rock creek camp was our lunch spot and Miss Pancakes was in front of me during the decent but when I arrived to lunch she was nowhere to be seen. Pocket lizard, Something Else and I guessed that she must have taken the turn to the ranger station and she’ll be back to us soon.
Soon after I arrived,  Colonel, Duck and Woodstock showed up and we all ate lunch together. Miss Pancakes showed up 10 minutes after everyone else.

Unfortunately, Chicken Joe is still behind us, but should be at camp tonight.

The second half of the day was grueling because it was tedious and took so long.
The day’s elevation wasn’t bad at all, but it was the terrain and the mileage that hurt.

Once we got to the final descent we could see mount Whitney and I was just star struck. Tomorrow we climb that. Wow. What a crazy thing I’m about to do.

Last 2 miles sucked, but it was so beautiful. Mosquito central though. Even at camp I was being bite alive so I finally got to try my bug shirt. Works great.

I saw a marmot for the first time… then immediately saw 2 more.

Once we got to camp it was about 7pm.
Our original thought of leaving for a sunrise hike at 12am was not going to happen anymore. After that hard day everyone decided we all needed sleep.
We decided on a 3am wake up to leave for 4am.

Today we also found our 99th hole!
