Head Above Water,
Feet on the Ground~
A Pacific Crest Trail Journey

Day 59

12.5 miles hiked

Jess and I had a late start to the day. We didn’t leave camp till 10am. We slept easily from 9pm the night before too.

I just needed the sleep I guess. Maybe something due to the elevation we have been gaining? Who knows.

We hiked 2 miles to water to fill up another litre to get us to the next source. I am so happy being in the Sierra means that I shouldn't have to carry more than 3 litres of water now instead of the desert being close to 7 some days.
Then we ate lunch around 12:30 at the meadow.
This meadow was beautiful. Breathtaking. A sight for sore eyes after the desert. We spent a good 40 minutes here for lunch and stretching.

Then it was 2.7 more miles to the next source (funny enough this source was where we were going to camp last night if we had been able to make it) it was pretty, but smelt a little bad.

Under the bridge there were lots of swallow’s nesting. It was nice to watch them swooping around and gathering materials while I stretched again.

5.2 miles till camp.
All uphill. Over 2,700 feet of elevation coming up. Kill me now.
Next water is 3.2 away. I'm thirsty, maybe I should have taken a 1/2 litre more from the last source. It was a gradual climb until then so I pushed through hard to get there.
Once we got to the water we ate a quick snack to give us this last push to get to camp.

As I climbed today the elevation was really getting to me. I started to feel my chest hurting. Breathless. Sweating. Thirsty. Dying.
But I’m alive and thriving and 1.5 miles away.
I got this.

We got lost about a mile away from camp. That was an adventure that took us a little long to recalibrate and get back on trail.

When we got to the last water source before camp I quickly filled up my bladder, and then continued on before Jess was filled up because the mosquitoes were swarming me.

When I arrived at camp finally the other hikers were sitting around and eating and chatting and cheered my arrive.

Yes! We did it! Jess showed up about 5 minutes later.
Pocket Lizard and Miss Pancakes were also here so that was a pleasant surprise as I thought they were ahead of us.
I indulged in some mashed potatoes and added some gravy for dinner and some fruit snacks.

The sunset tonight is beautiful. Peachy pink and orange. I love sunsets. Such beautiful moments they give me. I feel so alive when I watch a sunset.

Nighty night
