7 miles hiked

Today started off hard again. I was nauseous again and threw up in the morning.
I planned to wake up for around 5:30am but I slept till 6:30 to try to help some of the nausea.
Unfortunately because of that I was also slow going in the morning and wasn’t ready to hike until about 8am.
It was already 30 degrees at 8am.
I’m screwed.

I hiked alone today because I needed to. Roy was behind me.

I kept a good pace but the heat was not good for me. I was feeling very hot and nauseous. I had a headache and my steps were sloppy. And god was I thirsty.

I realized that I maybe was getting heat exhaustion. It makes sense considering I haven’t been feeling well with the nausea in the mornings lately.

I decided I would only hike 7 miles and get picked up at the highway and go to Agua Dulce from there.
By 9am it was 33 degrees

The temperature was expected to rise to 35 degrees by 10am and stay at 35 degrees until 4pm.

Not a good day for hikers that’s for sure. It’s becoming dangerous to hike in the desert now and I need to get out as soon as I can.
Many hikers I’ve passed has spoken about skipping ahead and I might do that too. At least some of the desert. Not all of it. Then I would come back to finish what I skipped before touching the northern terminus.

I ended up collapsing 3 times before the highway, my legs just gave out from under me.
So I’m glad I made the decision to be picked up by a trail angel and driven the last 3 miles to town.

I got picked up and brought to AD for some Mexican food. I ate some enchiladas. Then I went to the campsite and was going to stay the night but my heat exhaustion was really getting to me. It was too hot even in the shade and the temps today were only supposed to drop 10 degrees. So I opted to get a ride into Santa Clarita and stay in a hotel by myself.
This is where I left my hiking partner Roy because I needed time alone to plan my next course of action and to get myself feeling better.

Once I arrived at the hotel I took a nice cool bath to cool down. Then ordered some pizza and watched some tv and relaxed with the AC blasting.

Tomorrow I plan to get a hitch to Target maybe to properly get some groceries for the day and some food for my resupply.

The cold hotel bed sheets felt amazing on my hot skin.

I know I’ll sleep well tonight :)
